What's the Fairest Way to Pick a Giveaway Winner?
One entry per person, a closing time announced in advance, and a draw people can see. The simple things that make a giveaway winner feel fair rather than chosen.

The fairest way to pick a giveaway winner is to fix the rules before you draw, give every entrant one equal entry, and make the draw something people can see. The draw itself is the easy part — the fairness comes from what you decide beforehand.
Say when entries close
Announce the closing time in advance and stick to it. Half of the arguments about a giveaway come from someone who entered a minute late or thinks the window moved. If the deadline is stated up front, the draw isn't yours to defend.
One entry per person
Decide whether everyone gets a single entry or whether some actions earn extra ones, and be open about it. If it is one each, make sure a name that appears twice in your list only counts once — a good picker merges duplicate lines so a copy-paste slip doesn't hand someone two chances.
Draw where people can see
Pulling a name in private and posting it later invites the question of whether you really drew it. Running the draw on a screen — a live pick with the winner shown big — settles that without you having to say a word about it. The point is that the room, or the feed, watches the pick happen.
Don't re-draw
The one thing that undoes all of it is quietly drawing again because you didn't like who came up. A draw you redo isn't a draw. If a winner turns out to be ineligible under a rule you set in advance, say so openly and draw the next one.
The Raffle & Giveaway Winner Picker handles the draw itself; if you want to know it is genuinely random, how random an online winner picker is covers that.
